As one of those users, I had grown more and more concerned that this very useful and completely integrated tool would die off. I frequented the forums almost daily and the conversations were turning caustic. Many people frustrated by the lack of communication from the developers had fled to other forum choices such as Agora and other bridged external forum tools like Simple Machines Forum. According to the blogs and announcements on the new site (http://kunena.com), several of the active participants and others joined together and decided to fork or redevelop the Fireboard forum. At the time of this writing they have released a new stable version (1.0.8) that is a cleanup of the original Fireboard code. This version is not Joomla 1.5 native however, they do plan to release a native version (Kunena 1.5) soon. After that release, they plan to re-author the entire project from scratch for Joomla 1.6.x. I will be replacing my personal site tech forum with Kunena 1.0.8 later this week. I will post a review in two weeks... References and associated links: |
For months now many thousands of loyal Joomla Fireboard forum users have been anxiously wondering/worrying about the fate of the most popular forum tool for Joomla. Now the wait is over. It seems that finally, a fork of the popular forum has been created and called Kunena or "To Speak."
